🌶️ Trinidad Moruga Scorpion: The Pepper That Punches Back
If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be punched in the face by a small tropical fruit, allow us to introduce you to the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion — a pepper so hot it makes the devil feel like a lemon Calipo. Hailing from the Caribbean island of Trinidad, this fiery little beast was once crowned the world’s hottest chili. And while it may have lost that title to a few even more deranged cultivars it remains a serious danger to your intestinal health.
🔥 How Hot Are We Talking?

This is not only a test of you intestinal health but also your sanity.
Measured on the Scoville scale, the Moruga Scorpion clocks in at up to 2 million SHU (Scoville Heat Units). For context, that’s roughly 250 times hotter than a jalapeño and only slightly less traumatic than being maced by a disgruntled pensioner.
Unlike some chilies that politely announce their presence, the Moruga Scorpion builds its heat gradually. At first, you might think, “Oh, that’s not so bad.” Then, moments later, it unleashes a slow, smouldering inferno that clings to your soul and refuses to leave. It’s the culinary equivalent of downing a shot of 98 unleaded and then setting your mouth on fire .
🇹🇹 Roots in Trinidad

The beautiful Trinidad and Tabago Islands. The people here have no respect for their tastebuds.
This chili was discovered in the Moruga region of Trinidad, where locals — clearly made of sterner stuff — have been growing and using it for years. It’s a staple in spicy Caribbean cuisine and is often made into deadly hot sauces, pepper jams, or casually used in stews that come with an unspoken health warning.
🥵 Not for Beginners
Unless you’ve trained your palate in the fire pits of Mordor, this is not a pepper for the faint-hearted. Gloves are recommended when handling it, eye protection wouldn’t hurt, and for the love of all that is holy — don’t touch your genitals or bottom hole afterwards.

We tip our hats (containing our sweaty foreheads) to the mighty Moruga. Have a peep at our hot sauce range if you’re a fan of super spicy sauces. Taste with caution. Or courage. Preferably both.
